Wonderful Weekend (image heavy)

Oh, Sunday. Today is one of my most favorite days of the week and this one was definitely a good one. The entire weekend was actually pretty perfect, and I needed it, as I've been feeling a little off these past few days. My friend Adie always says that life has an ebb and a flow to it, and she's totally right- and a lot of the time my ebb and flow is a little too up and down for my taste, but I guess that's life. I've just felt a little down lately, a little sad, and a little "something" I can't quite put my finger on. I think this can be attributed to Henry's new wakeful period he's been going through, and rather than sleeping through the night like he has for months, he's been waking up a few times during the night. I'm thinking this is from teething, and I hope the poor little guy settles down soon, I feel terrible for him. And as for me, I'm tired, and that just kind of snowballs as each sleepless night goes by. Part of the problem was that I was going to bed at midnight or 1am, sleeping fitfully right along with Henry (waking to feed him), and then ultimately getting up around 6:30am. That is not conducive to a happy mama! So now, I'm forcing myself to go to bed at 10pm, and that way, at least I get a lot more sleep collectively. I already feel better so I think it's helping. I'm definitely going to continue the 10pm bedtime this week.

So other than my weird moods, things are really, really good. In my mind spring is short- summer is already on its way in and I can't wait. This weekend sure felt like summer up here in Prescott, and the weather was absolutely beautiful last night during our evening downtown. My parents were in town, so we did our normal dinner routine: Bill's pizza for salads and pizza, and a nice stroll around the square. The temperature was in the 70s and Henry was the happiest baby- he loves being outside. We also celebrated an early Easter, and my Mom made Henry the sweetest basket. Holidays are just so much fun with kiddos around!

This morning we woke up and went to brunch at the Dinner Bell, then came home and relaxed for awhile. Later in the day I went to the gym, and a combination of being outside and some hard cardio seemed to snap me out of the funk I've been in. I'm looking forward to having a really positive week and getting a lot accomplished. Some of the things I'm looking forward to: our new family room curtains arriving from Anthro, a hair appointment with Rhonda, and spending some time with some lovely ladies. So- here's to a great week!

Here are some photos from the past few days:

I mentioned before that Erin and her son Kyler came up Thursday. We had the best night hanging out, talking, and laughing. I've talked about Erin a lot on this blog, but we've been close friends since college where we met in our freshman dorm, and then ended up rushing the same sorority. We've had a lifetime of memories made together (11 years of friendship!), and when we got pregnant two months apart it was amazing to go through that experience together. She's the best!

cheers to 11 years of friendship!

Have a great weekend everyone! xo

Sunday, on a Monday

This weekend was super relaxing, which was exactly what I needed! Hank and I decided to spend Sunday sleeping in late, and then spending time outdoors in the sun. Both of us need to get sunlight in order to stay happy, we're like plants! But really, vitamin D from the sun does a body good and since both of us are inside at work most of the week it's nice to spend an entire day outside. It's also nice to live almost right on the square and to be able to walk anywhere right downtown. When we buy our home we'd like to be more in the forest, so I am trying to treasure these times while still we live down here.

We ate at Mama Edda's, a local pizza place that has vegan meats and pizza options. Really yummy.

It was hard to wake up this morning after having such a pleasant weekend. I felt so relaxed and I feel like if I just had one more day, it would have been perfect! But I'm sure at the end of that day, I'd want another. These days I feel like I really am "working for the weekend" and it's been hard to have motivation during these last weeks until the summer.

So in the spirit of my non-motivation, here are two videos for your viewing pleasure! :)

And of course my favorite girl in the entire world, Dolly. I should start drinking coffee so I can have a "cup of ambition" every morning! I love this woman so, so much...I listen to her everyday and one day I WILL get a Dolly tattoo.

In other music related news, the new Gaslight album leaked. Even though I'm super excited to have it so early, it's definitely a bummer for them to have it leak two months ahead of time, so I hope that if you got a leaked copy you will join me in buying the album when it actually releases on June 15th! My friends Erin and Scotty both text messaged me the moment they noticed it was out, and when I got home Scotty sent it over my way. Erin had prefaced the album by saying that she thought it seemed a little more "emotional" and so far she's not that into it, and Scotty said it was "less rock, more talk." haha. I listened to it three times in a row this afternoon and I LOVE it. I knew they were going for a different sound, and they definitely achieved it. It's still absolutely Gaslight, but it's a bit more mellow and just a different feel. I've adored the more emotionally charged songs of theirs- I'm all about the lyrics and that really raw quality to Brian's voice, and in this album you definitely get a lot of that. Two thumbs up! If you have it, what do you think of it so far?

If you aren't familiar with The Gaslight Anthem, here's a video of one of my favorite songs off their second full-length "The '59 Sound." Most of my friends like their first album "Sink or Swim" better but I like both pretty evenly, and I especially love the "SeƱor and the Queen" EP - it has two of my fave songs on it. I talk about them a lot because they're one of my all-time favorite bands...if you don't listen to them you definitely should! Great stuff! :)

Have a wonderful evening!

Tuesday = fantastic

Today was SUCH a great day at work. My sophomores and I played this really fun "game" where I tell them to get out a piece of paper and tear it into three strips. On one strip they write a setting, on another they write a character, and on the last strip they write a situation. The three things don't have to be related since I put them in separate jars. Then we draw one from each section and write them on the board...the kids then have to write the first paragraph of a story encompassing the three story elements we randomly drew. Then we read the stories aloud and they were SO GOOD. I was dying from laughter at some of them. The kids are so creative and it was a really nice segue way into our short story writing unit tomorrow...plus, I think they all really enjoyed it. :) My Seniors are beginning our "book club" unit where I let them get into small groups and choose any novel they want to read together, and I give them assignments and projects throughout the time frame. It's neat because they have the opportunity to really pick something they like. I'm excited to hear their choices tomorrow!

When I got home from school Hank and I decided to spend some time outside, so we got Madeline in her little harness and spent a good part of the afternoon in the sun. It is SUCH a nice day today and it was so nice to be outdoors and downtown. We're going to do our usual Tuesday night Hugo's trip in a minute, and then snuggle up to watch LOST. If you didn't know, I love LOST, and Hank and I are both super into it. I'm sad it's ending, but I am really curious to see how they tie up all of these loose ends. Are any of you LOST fans? :)

I will be back later tonight with Tattoo Tuesday of course, but for now I will leave you with some photos. I hope all of you had a lovely, lovely day!
