What in my diaper bag?

I've done the whole "what's in my bag" post before, and since I now carry a diaper bag most of the time, I figured I'd share a little about what I carry on a day to day basis! It came up the other day on Twitter when I was talking to my mama-to-be friend Kristy, and since I've had this sitting half done in my queued posts forever (and she's about to give birth!) I figured it was a good time to finally share! I'm an organized minimalist, so maybe I carry around less than most people, but I'm not really sure. I go between this bag, and sometimes Hank's Skip Hop diaper bag when we are going to be out and about for awhile, since it zippers which is much more convenient. I do love this bag though just because it's so darn cute and I love that it doesn't exactly look like a diaper bag, while at the same time it's totally functional. The inside of the bag and all of the pockets are easy-clean vinyl which is awesome too. So, here you go!

for my what's in your diaper bag post

clockwise:
  • pacifier wipes. Even though Henry doesn't use one, I still like to have these on hand to wipe off his toys if they fall on the floor in a public place.
  • breast pads. I'm terrified of wearing a cute, light colored dress or top and then being surprised with huge leakage spots. I'd rather be safe than sorry!
  • diaper ointment. Henry has actually only had diaper rash once, when we tried a different brand of diapers, but I keep this in there just in case. This particular one is from my Aunt Ellen, and is "Earth Friendly Baby" brand.
  • diapers. I always have at least a few. We are currently using Costco brand and love them.
  • prefold cloth diaper for wiping up drool, etc. On top of that is a blue onesie in case H. needs a change of clothing, which could totally happen due to any number of bodily functions. And on the very top is a thin blanket that can be used for a million different purposes.
  • a book. I like to be able to read with him wherever we are if the occasion arises.
  • baby wipes. We got these at our shower (Earth's Best brand) so we've been using them. At home though we use Costco brand and really, really love them. $20 for 900. Awesome.
  • teeny tiny first aid kit for obvious reasons.
  • Sophie Giraffe. Henry isn't teething yet, but it's great to have a toy to keep him busy and distract him in case he starts to cry. He loves this little animal and it always makes him smile.
So, there you have it! I'd also LOVE to see what's in your diaper bag, so mamas, if you want to make a similar post, link back here or email the link to me at sometimessweetblog@gmail.com and I'll include the link in a round up post next week!

Marvelous Monday

Today was a GOOD day. Great, even! It was one of those days at work when I really felt like all of my students "got it," and that made me so happy. We're currently working on persuasive speeches so I was teaching them all about thesis statements, claims/evidence, and all that fun stuff. Even though those topics can be a bit dry, they seemed to enjoy it...probably had something to do with my weird peanut butter and jelly sandwich example though. haha. OH but while at work snow started falling and by the time school was out we had a nice white blanket covering the front lawn! They immediately called a two-hour delay for tomorrow, so I don't have to go in until 10am. After work I went to the gym, and then brought home Hugo's for a night in, which we spent on the couch, cozied up and watching The Biggest Loser. Hank just got home from tour this morning, so it's been nice to spend a lovely evening inside, with the storm going crazy outside! He's currently super into Monday Night Football so I thought I would sneak away and blog for a bit.

I have gotten a lot of questions about my tattoos, so I thought I would send you over to this entry, from July. It's my "tattoo story" and goes into detail about all of it. Keep in mind that since that post I've gotten my neck, thigh, and rib panel done as well! If you'd like to see some photos of them, you can visit this post- just scroll down through all the photos until you get to the tattoo question and my answer.

So, the rest of this week is going to be a pretty relaxing week. I have a bit more holiday shopping to do, and Hank and I also need to take our "Happy New Year" photoshoot for our cards! I am just so glad he is home. I'm definitely an independent kinda gal, but my heart still physically hurts when we are apart. Six years later and it never gets easier! Speaking of him being gone, while he was on tour a friend of their band gave him this cute Marc by Marc Jacobs promo tee to give me! How sweet is that? This isn't the best photo but it's a pretty orange color, with an umbrella and "marc by marc jacobs" falling like rain. I am going to pair it with a high waisted skirt and cardigan. Love it.

cute MBMJ tee from HOTW's friend

Right now the wind is absolutely insane outside. I'm actually kind of scared our windows will blow in! In spirit of this windy night I thought I would make a cute playlist, perfect for sitting indoors and enjoying a cute night in.

I hope all of you have a great evening!

Wonderful Wednesday!

One of the main reasons I love Wednesday is because every week we have a half day! What's not to love about that? So today was a great, short work day. Hank leaves for a super small tour (I don't know if I'd even consider it a tour) tomorrow morning, and here's their schedule...

Dec. 3rd in Fullerton, CA
Dec. 4th in San Francisco, CA
Dec. 5th in Escondido, CA
Dec. 6th in Murrietta, CA

Let me know if any of you would like to go to any of the shows! Like I mentioned before, I was thinking of going with them, but couldn't take off three days so close to the end of the semester to accommodate that schedule. It should be a really fun time! Oh, and if you are a new reader, one of the bands my husband Hank is in is called Hour of the Wolf- he plays guitar.

Here are some random photos from today! :)

If you remember my most recent nail polish post about a week or two ago, here's a photo of Essie's "Mint Candy Apple" in action! I love this color so much.

Essie's "Candy Apple Mint"

And...a few days back I posted about this bag. Although Hank and I aren't currently expecting a little one, I have been wanting this bag forever, and years ago I even wanted to buy it and put it aside. Now that we are much closer to actually needing a diaper bag (not quite yet, but close), it was a totally justifiable purchase in my mind. Haha. Thankfully Hank agreed! So here it is, and away into our closet it goes until we eventually need it. Some may think that is silly, but I know that whenever that time comes, if this bag wasn't available I would be really sad!

super cute.

Here's a photo that also includes the vinyl changing pad- the inside is vinyl as well.

I couldn't resist!

Annd, the best photo of all- today I held a baby rat! I am usually scared of all rodent creatures but this one was very tiny and very sweet. It belonged to one of my students.

baby rat!

The rest of my night is going to be spent proofreading a bunch of Hank's papers for his final exams, babysitting for a friend, getting some new things put away in my closet, going to the gym, and packing for my mini trip this weekend! Since I'm going to be having a bit of a quiet night tonight, I thought I would make a small playlist of good "quiet winter evening" songs! Some aren't as quiet as others, but they still put me in the same kind of mood. Enjoy!

Not quite there yet...

but WHEN we do have babies, THIS is the baby bag I will have. Marc Jacobs initially released this a long while back and it sold out, and it has been sold out, so this re-release has made me very happy! I just spotted it at Neiman's and then had to search around online for some more info. Annnd, I may or may have just purchased it for future mama self. ;)

*Special note: MOM, I swear I'm not pregnant...I can just imagine the phone calls after this post!

from bag fetish:

"This Marc by Marc Jacobs tote can be used either as a Baby Bag, or a chic tote. Available in White or Black leather, this Convertible Baby Bag Tote comes with a washable vinyl lining and a logo changing mat so that it's more convenient for you to change your baby's diapers in style, where ever you may be. You, lucky babies, you! If I were a baby, I'd definitely love to be changed on a MJ changing mat! After targeting the 'tweens' market, with Dakota Fanning as Marc Jacobs's new muse, perhaps Marc Jacobs is targeting babies now, by trying to cultivate brand loyalty since birth?"

photo originally from Neiman Marcus, I just put it into this little two photo frame. :)

Here's the link to NM too- it comes in a caramel as well.

THE perfect baby bag...
